Purified Drinking Water From The Seeds of Moringa oleifera Tree

The United Nations states that dirty water causes about 80 percent of diseases in the developing world and kills about 10 million people each year. While those living in the developed world have access to electronic water purifiers, people residing in the developing and the underdeveloped nations don’t have many alternatives.

Researchers have now tried to find ways to help these people drink purified water using nothing more than seeds from the Moringa oleifera tree. The tree, which is often described as the “world’s most useful tree,” produces seeds which can produce a 90 to 99.99 percent bacterial reduction in previously untreated water.

The purification process involves grinding the seeds into a paste and mixing that with untreated water. The paste particles then bind with impurities and settle to the bottom. Clean water can then be siphoned from the top.
